Rui Mendes (Lisboa, 1973) é arquitecto, tem atelier em Lisboa desde 2002 com actividade essencialmente ligada à prática do projecto e ao ensino da arquitectura. A obra “Casa em Santa Vitória” (Beja, 2003) integra a Exposição da Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa 2010 e o projecto “Acessos à colina do Castelo” (Lisboa, 2009), em co-autoria com Atelier Bugio, integra a Representação Portuguesa na Biennale de Arquitectura de Veneza 2012. “R9F6PBRANCO” (Pavilhão Branco – Museu da Cidade 2013), é o nome da exposição realizada e do livro publicado em colaboração com Fernanda Fragateiro. Co-editor do livro “LISBON GROUND” (Veneza 2012) e co-editor do Jornal Arquitectos (2012-2015). Tem realizado e organizado regularmente Colóquios e Seminários académicos, entre eles, o Colóquio Internacional “Arquitectura. O desenho do comum: chão, solo, espaço livre” (DA/UAL 2013), os Seminários “Ensaios sobre a estabilidade” (DA/UAL 2011), “Provisório e transitório na Arquitectura” (DA/UAL 2010) e o Workshop Internacional “Fortified Places” Erasmus Intensive Programme na École nationale supérieure d’architecture Paris-Malaquais (2014). Co-Curador do Concurso Universidades Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa 2016. Docente de Projecto no Departamento de Arquitectura da Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa DA/UAL e Departamento de Arquitectura da Universidade de Évora DA/UE.
Rui Mendes (Lisbon, 1973) is an architect with a studio in Lisbon since 2002 and develops essentially project activity connecting studio practice and university teaching. His work explores art-science procedures as conceptual tools, from the project to the building process. The work “Casa em Santa Vitória, Beja” was presented at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale TAL2010 and the Project “Acessos à colina do Castelo, Lisboa” 2009 coauthor Atelier Bugio, was displayed at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012. “R9F6PBRANCO”, Pavilhão Branco – Museu da Cidade 2013, is the exhibition and book published in collaboration with Fernanda Fragateiro.
Co-editor of the book “Lisbon Ground” for the Portuguese representation at the Venice Architectural Bienale 2012. Co-editor of the Architects Journal from 2012 to 2015 with articles published regularly, including “Resorts on stand-by, Tourism in Alqueva, the construction of the landscape and its paradoxes (JA248 09.2013). Curator of the Universities Competition for the TAL2016.
Has performed regularly conferences, seminars and symposiums academics, as “Architecture, The design of the common: ground, soil, free space” (DA/UAL 2013) and Workshop Internacional “Fortified Places” Erasmus Intensive Programme at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris-Malaquais (2014). Teacher of Project Studies at University of Évora (DA/UE) and Autónoma University of Lisbon (DA/UAL) since 2009.
